In addition to his most famous work "Walden; or, Life in the Woods," the American transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau left behind a substantial body of work consisting of journals, essays, and articles, most of which have not yet been translated into German. Alongside an introduction to the life and work of the author, this volume includes a selection of shorter texts, pointed aphorisms, and diary entries from the civilization-critical author.
