Product details
Normally, a long focal length of 500mm is accommodated in a mount of 500mm length. To achieve a handy, universally applicable, and compact solution, this lens employs a trick: the beam path is "folded" using two high-precision ground ring mirrors. This design results in a compact structure and an aperture that is more than 50% larger than that of a lens with the same focal length, along with a very short closest focusing distance of only 2 meters. The focusing is manual, and the lens can be used with aperture priority or manual exposure, depending on the camera. It is technically not possible to insert an iris diaphragm into the folded light path. If light reduction is necessary, this can be achieved using grey filters (not included), which are screwed in front of the rear lens. There is a thread M34x0.5 for this purpose.
The lens does not have a fixed infinity stop. Focusing is done by oscillating, finding the focus point safely from unsharp to sharp and back to unsharp. The T2 adapter is screwed onto the lens and then locked. After loosening the screws on the side of the T2 adapter, the lens can be "straightened" to align the index to the top. Tightening the screws again secures the lens and adapter reliably.
Using a full-frame lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor saves time in post-processing. Many lens aberrations, such as distortion, edge blur, or vignetting, occur in the outer areas of the image. By using a lens designed for full format on a camera with an APS-C sensor, these areas are not utilized, resulting in maximum quality. Therefore, additional post-processing time to correct lens errors is not necessary.
