The Timpfing Chip DS1302 includes a real-time clock and a calendar, as well as 31 bytes of static RAM. It communicates with a microprocessor via a simple serial interface. The real-time clock and calendar provide information on seconds, minutes, hours, days, date, month, and year. The end of the month date is automatically adjusted, including corrections for leap years and for months with fewer than 31 days. The clock operates in either 24-hour or 12-hour format with an AM/PM indicator.
