Shotgun microphones are often used when a microphone cannot be placed directly in front of the sound source. This is particularly true for interviews, where the microphone should not be visible in the camera's field of view. If the distance to the audio source exceeds three meters during recording, this distance will increasingly be audible in the sound image, which must be taken into account before recording.
