Can I also use the HP USB-C docking station for older notebooks without USB-C but with USB or HDMI ports (e.g. for an HP Envy or Sony notebook)? If so, does it need a special connection cable and how can I solve this? Thank you.

No, that is not possible. The docking only has a USB-C uplink to the notebook. There are no other connections.
