Can I simply connect the USB-C cable to a monitor as an alternative to the power supply?

The USB-C cable should actually be connected to the USB-C port of a notebook. Docking solutions are not actually intended for connection to a monitor; the hardware built into them is recognised by Windows 10 or 11, for example, and can be used. This does not work with a monitor, because it cannot load any drivers for it.
