Can the camera also be set to record only on one side, e.g. I would now like to film only a superview without a 360 degree view. Or can this camera only film 360 degree view?

Exactly, one-sided is also possible. But only with 1440p. The Hero 8 would have a better resolution.
However, with the Max you have the choice of SuperView.
