As far as I could find out through research and from my own experience, GoPro has not yet installed such a feature (

The USB-C cable is only intended for transferring data from the camera to the computer (and synchronously charging the battery).
GoPro only offers the so-called Remote Control, a device similar to a remote control for wireless control of the GoPro.
As an alternative, I found the following on YouTube:

However, it is important to note that such a solution not only restricts the recording quality, but also deteriorates it, is not a proprietary product and therefore does not guarantee smooth operation!
