I was also a little sceptical about whether the transmission power would be sufficient and tried it out without further ado. In my case, it works flawlessly, which saves me additional wiring. But it could also be decisive whether there are other Zigbee devices in the vicinity to build up a reliable mesh.

As I see it, this is not possible because the transmission power is too small and cannot overcome the metal wall of the refrigerator. For this purpose, there are special temperature sensors for refrigerators/freezers that have the sensor on a thin cable that has to be inserted into the appliance.
