Does the Rockster Cross have a microphone and how does the hands-free function work? Can you use it to make calls in the car ?

Yes, the Cross has a microphone and the hands-free system works great. Making calls with the Cross is possible everywhere. I haven't tried it in the car yet, but I don't think it's a problem.
