I am currently using a Benq W2000. However, it's been a few years now and I want to replace it soon. I would now like a 4k projector, which is certainly a lot brighter and also works in a room that is not completely darkened. I don't have a screen and project directly onto the wall (normal, not completely smooth flat wall). Would the Epson EH-LS800B make sense here or is it better not to use a short-throw projector because the wall is not completely smooth?
This will work very well because you can adjust the projector to the millimetre, but I wouldn't recommend it because given the very high price it's a thousand times better with a screen adapted to the short focal length. I did the test and there's no photo with the screen 😎
I had roughly the same expectations as you and can't recommend it. The image is washed out at the top due to the shadow effect without a wall and doesn't look good. Otherwise the brightness was good. Only screen is mandatory...
