I don't quite understand. How does the unit get power if it doesn't have a power supply?

The basic functionality is passed on from the notebook via USB-C, for which USB-C is easily sufficient. However, the notebook itself would then have to be connected to the power supply. If you buy the docking solution with the power supply unit, you can also charge the notebook via USB-C cable if it is equipped for this purpose, but not all notebooks can do this.
