I have bought a Nikon D610 and am now wondering whether it is still worth buying this lens or whether I should rather buy the G lens.

The G version is a bit newer. The focus motor on the G version is supposed to be quieter, although I can't complain about the volume. The G version has slightly more rounded aperture blades than the older D (for a nicer, softer bokeh, which can sometimes turn out "hard" on the D). Qualitatively, there is not much difference between the two.
But in the meantime I would get the newer one ;)
