The fans only work when the top part of the housing isn't connected by all the magnets. They don't spin until I take the top part off and they begin to spin up right away. Am I doing something wrong?

Probably the cable is blocking the fans. I have no problem with the case closed or even open. You have to put the cable away from the fans. Good luck
