In 1924, August Bremicker and his sons in the small village of Volmarstein near Wetter an der Ruhr achieved the feat of bringing a pioneering padlock onto the market: the "Iron Rock". Back then, the family began developing and producing locks in the forge in the basement of their home. Competition was fierce, as there were many such forges in Volmarstein and the surrounding area at the time. But August Bremicker and his sons were so successful that the company grew rapidly and in 1929 the production facility on Hegestrasse in Volmarstein was purchased, which is still in operation today. Today, Abus is a global company run by the fourth generation of the family and its products are valued worldwide for their quality.
