It says that you can only hang the hammock over a mattress in the description above. Is this correct?

No, I think it's a bad translation of the German. My interpretation is that the hammock is suspended by a single point.

Hello Is the cushion insert also available to buy separately? I'm not talking about the Sunny cushion, but the other one that goes UNDER the seat (you can see it in the photos).

Supposedly not. I have the hammock and the Hippo frame, the hammock already hangs relatively low. When I bought the two products 2 years ago, I was told that the hammock touches the ground with the spring. I have therefore not tried it.
