Yes, they can be put in the freezer without any problem. The shelf life depends on the food, 2-3 months should not be a problem. However, given the rate at which homemade jars are going, I doubt they will stay in the freezer that long.

Note: sterilising in glass jars is also a good way to preserve food, I used to put them in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes.
