The book "Absolute and Relative Dating Methods in Prehistory" by Erica Hughes offers a critical analysis of dating methods in prehistoric research, particularly in the context of the Hallan Çemi site in southeastern Turkey. The claim that this site was inhabited during the Epipaleolithic period is called into question. While techno-typological analyses, especially of worked stone, suggest habitation in the 11th millennium BP, the iconographic features of worked stone and bone show similarities with later sites in the vicinity. The book highlights the challenges of dating and describing prehistoric development in southeastern Anatolia and addresses the difficulties arising from the limited number of sites in the region. It also discusses the issues of applying terminological concepts from other regions to southeastern Anatolia, which can lead to misunderstandings.
