In his Aeneid, Virgil has shaped the story of the Roman founding father Aeneas into a perfected form using Homeric motifs, thereby creating not only the national epic of the Romans but also the model for all Latin epic poetry. The edition in the Reclam Library offers the Latin original text along with an accurate and easily readable prose translation, as well as an extensive appendix. Additionally, the edition features the 13th book by Renaissance poet Maffeo Vegio, which was intended as a continuation.
