Since 2001, Bundeswehr soldiers have been deployed under life-threatening conditions in the Hindu Kush. Their mission: to create stability and democracy in northern Afghanistan and support reconstruction. However, the security situation in the war-torn country is disastrous - a mission impossible. In Istanbul, the paths of two young men, who want to go to Europe for different reasons, cross. Together, they embark on a journey to Germany. Shortly thereafter, Freiburg is shaken by gruesome crimes and seemingly random attacks, leaving the homicide investigators in the dark. The public and the press suspect the perpetrators among the refugees, and emotions run high in the media and social networks. However, the investigators also suspect perpetrators within the circle of friends. The investigative work of the Freiburg homicide squad continues in collaboration with the BKA until a hot lead leads to the Freiburg market hall and the case is solved. Yet the motive remains unclear. It is only when a former Bundeswehr soldier who served in Afghanistan reveals the full truth about previous deployments in the Hindu Kush that the magnitude of intertwined human fates from past years becomes evident.
