This book addresses the issue of alcoholism among individuals with intellectual disabilities. Until now, there has been relatively little literature on this topic. This is the first comprehensive overview of the available materials, most of which come from the Anglo-American context. The book is structured around the following key areas: basic information on alcoholism, basic information on intellectual disabilities, a summary of the areas concerning: prevalence, drinking behavior, effects, risk factors/protective factors, prevention, problems, dependence on other psychoactive substances, diagnostics, and therapeutic interventions. Additionally, this book includes a comprehensive list of references to allow for deeper exploration of various topics.
