Product details
The author enjoys traveling off the beaten path. After a journey by recumbent bike from northern Germany to the Sahara and a hike without a map to the Fürst-Pückler-Park in Bad Muskau, he now explored Germany using public transportation. He discovered 27 small and large, well-known and lesser-known places recommended by family, friends, and neighbors. He connected these locations into stages. Then he immersed himself in the world of timetables and transport associations, studied network maps, utilized online connection searches and numerous apps, and researched prices, day tickets, and regional tickets. Over four years, Bernhard Weiland completed 15 stages to reach all his destinations via public transport across Germany. In the end, he traveled approximately 2900 kilometers on buses, call taxis, city, and suburban trains, spent many hours waiting at stops, hoped for timely connections, and rediscovered this country. During his journey, he collected many little stories for this book. He started in 2016 in Hannover, his hometown. By mid-2020, he planned to conclude his travel project on the island of Neuwerk. The book also recounts why that plan did not fully materialize.
