A book and a guide for anyone who is in a crisis or knows someone who is. Conny, now 42 years old, was born with cerebral palsy. She only gets to know her parental home sporadically through short stays between hospitals and foster care. Warmth, security, love, affection, and trust are words whose meanings she only learns to understand and feel in her mature womanhood.

Initially, her life is shaped by the streets. Alcohol, drugs, rapes, squatting, humiliation, and begging are the defining elements of her early life. It is only after two suicide attempts and various stays in psychiatric clinics, having hit rock bottom in the lowest social milieu, that she recognizes her situation.

Her escape begins in a women's shelter. Here, she meets helpful people and fights to regain her will to live by declaring, "I want to"! Now sitting in a wheelchair as a single mother, she aims to transition from being a recipient of charity to achieving independence and becoming her own boss. That is her goal. However, she faces seemingly insurmountable obstacles, both of her own making and those imposed by others.
