This work deals with the topic of safety communication and how German tour operators convey the issue of travel safety to their guests. The background of this topic includes terrorist attacks on tourist destinations and how tour operators manage these threats, as well as the safety communication and safety management of the operator Studiosus Reisen, which has taken on a pioneering role in the industry. A semantic analysis was used as the methodology to examine the nature of communication and applied to the safety communication of around 50 German tour operators. As examples, the countries Turkey, France, and the North African states of Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco were selected for investigation, as these countries have repeatedly been targets of terrorist attacks in recent times. The tour operators were categorized according to the segments of leisure travel, nature travel, cultural travel, and individual travel to identify possible different approaches in communication.
