This work develops a Linux-based concept for providing application-based services in a wireless network (WLAN). It includes a technological examination of existing terminal server platforms. The concept is tested through two different solution approaches. In an experimental test environment, the usability limits for both implementations are determined concerning the network parameters packet loss rate and latency. The results define the necessary network conditions for realizing the desired ASP solution in a wireless network. Based on the findings, the suitability of the examined solutions for the specific use case is assessed. A comparison of the technology-related costs and the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for operating an ASP solution over three years shows that a Linux-based system can offer potential savings.
