Product details

This volume brings together empirical research results from various subfields of family and labor market sociology that examine the effects of atypical employment on families and partnerships. The aim of the volume is to provide impulses for future research approaches as well as to highlight empirically grounded practical references from recent contributions in this research field.

Following a theoretical and empirical overview of action theory, approaches to empirically measuring the subjective burden resulting from atypical employment are developed and empirically tested. Subsequently, the consequences of atypical employment relationships are focused on specific areas of family life: the expressions of young adults' desire for children, processes of partnership institutionalization, the division of childcare among young couples, and the manifestations and consequences of migrant care work. The studies are complemented by an internationally comparative perspective. At the end of the volume, practical recommendations for the future regulation of atypical employment relationships are also provided, focusing on social and family policy implications.
