The Slavic scholar Astrid Maria Ottilie Shchekina-Greipel examines the effects of the Soviet Union's foreign cultural policy regarding the publication of West German literature during the Cold War, using the example of the engagement with the novel 'Haus ohne Hüter' by Heinrich Böll. The study investigates which bodies of the Soviet literary establishment were responsible for implementing the foreign cultural policy and what selection criteria they were expected to follow.
