The deterioration of soil quality in India is extremely concerning, as India is home to 18% of the world's population and 15% of the global livestock, yet possesses only 2.4% of the world's land area. The causes of soil degradation are both natural and human-induced. Some of the social causes of land degradation in India include land scarcity, a decline in per capita available land, economic pressure on land, poverty, and population growth. The characteristics of runoff were developed for slopes of 8%, 12%, and 20%. It was found that runoff increases with the increasing slope of the terrain. However, it was observed that runoff decreases with increasing vegetation cover. Since the plots were initially barren, no significant differences in runoff were observed among the three plots. The monthly rainfall for 2017 was 1014.7, 920.8, 576, 758, and 135.0 mm for the months of June, July, August, September, and October, respectively. The runoff for slopes of 8%, 12%, and 20% during the study season was 431.61, 571.9, and 590.62 mm, respectively, while the sediment yield was 4.095, 5.504, and 5.581 t/ha/year. The sediment yield and runoff were higher at a 20% slope compared to 8% and 12% slopes.
