A writer, who writes about the rollback of the late Renaissance, retreats into a press-shy apartment in Berlin. A thin man approaches him, as if he knows what the American is thinking, and he apparently sees far more than one would generally consider normal. To his horror, the American realizes that the man will gradually take hold of him both erotically and emotionally, and that he will become dependent, just as he once became dependent on one of the residents of a Viennese homeless shelter during his time as a literature student. When the man announces great, terrible deeds, confusion and fear arise: delusions, mysterious experiences, and the almost pornographic theories of a conspiracy of evil mix with reports of UFOs, which, as Jacques Vallée noted in 'The Invisible College', strikingly resemble accounts of demon visitations during the Renaissance. Likely, as in Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver', it is other causes that lead such marginalized individuals and loners, as one would say in the USA, to latch onto some mental software that circulates underground and resembles a video game in its structural depth.
