For many years, price theory was based on the idealized notions of a rationally acting customer and the presence of perfect information regarding prices and preferences. Since the 1980s, there has been a shift in perspective towards a behaviorally oriented pricing policy. The increasing importance of behavioral concepts in price research is also reflected in the emergence of a dedicated research field known as Behavioral Pricing. So far, the focus has primarily been on pricing policies for physical goods. However, with the significant growth of the internet economy in recent years, there has also been a marked increase in the social and economic significance of digital goods, which can no longer be overlooked in the context of behavioral price research. This work aims to transfer some key findings from existing Behavioral Pricing research to the pricing policies for digital goods, thereby raising awareness among their providers about the psychological aspects of pricing.
