Almost everyone comes into contact with data protection in their daily lives - whether as an employer or an employee, consciously or unconsciously. In this work, the author addresses the issue of video surveillance in the workplace. She provides an overview of current technological developments and initial considerations for implementing video surveillance in an employment context. She outlines the legal framework for handling personal data and examines the permissibility of video surveillance in various scenarios. She then discusses the use of the collected data in legal proceedings. The rights and claims of those affected, as well as the control mechanisms provided for in the Federal Data Protection Act to ensure compliance with regulations, are also highlighted. The focus of the investigations is on targeted employee monitoring by private employers for performance control and in connection with criminal offenses. In line with the state of technology, only digital video technology is considered.
