The book "Biodiversity of Indigenous Pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) in Cameroon" offers a comprehensive analysis of the morphology and biometric characteristics of the native pig population in Cameroon. It examines the genetic variability within this population, which resides in the humid forest zone with unimodal rainfall. Discriminant analyses identified three genetic types, with Type III exhibiting the most advantageous traits. The phylogenetic analysis reveals the genetic relationships among the types and provides approaches for genetic improvement. The work highlights the importance of characterizing and preserving indigenous pig genetics, particularly in light of challenges such as genetic erosion, climate change, and disease susceptibility. It offers valuable insights for breeders and farmers to develop new breeding lines and sustainably enhance pig production in Cameroon.
