This book provides a detailed description of the various systems for classifying soil cultivation methods. In addition to the intensity of soil cultivation, the amount of mulch cover after sowing, expressed as a percentage or in kg/ha, is of great importance. It compares conventional soil cultivation, both tillage and no-till, with conservation methods. A significant component is the criteria catalog, which includes important parameters from technical, ecological, and economic perspectives. This criteria catalog was developed from practical experiences and scientific studies. The technical criteria regarding traction force, performance and energy requirements, fuel consumption, and shear pressure for each method are also compared. From an ecological standpoint, the book discusses soil cover, soil erosion, organic carbon loss, nitrogen and phosphorus runoff, humus quantity and content, CO2 emissions from diesel consumption, and air capacity. The economic section includes a model calculation of machinery and labor costs for six different soil cultivation systems.
