The textbook "Cellulase for Waste Mitigation" by Surendra Sarsaiya provides a comprehensive analysis of the role of cellulase enzymes in modern biotechnology, particularly in the context of waste management. It examines how these enzymes and microorganisms can be utilized for the sustainable production of chemicals, biopolymers, and biofuels from renewable resources. The book discusses screening methods for a variety of microbes isolated from municipal solid waste, compost, and soil. Additionally, it addresses the optimization of physical and nutritional conditions to maximize enzyme activity, as well as the production and partial purification of the enzyme. A special focus is placed on the use of the microorganism Trichoderma viride FGCC 35 for the biodegradation of cellulosic materials to reduce the impact of municipal solid waste on landfills.
