Product details
Daniel Nikolaus Chodowiecki (1726 - 1801) was the most popular German engraver, graphic artist, and illustrator of his time. Goethe described him as a very respectable and ideal artist, widely known for his drawings and small engravings that depicted scenes of bourgeois life, in which he often excelled at capturing the expression and character of the figures. Nothing more ideal could be demanded in the circle in which he worked. Ludwig Kaemmerer's biography from 1897 represents, alongside Wolfgang von Oettinger's art-historical examination 'Daniel Chodowiecki', the second major publication in the 19th century about the Berlin artist.
