Content: A well-researched yet readable overview of the intertwined history of the German-language comic trade press. The over 60 magazines published since 1970 have accompanied and sometimes even shaped the development of the German comic scene. Eckart Sackmann has compiled many facts from the history of this specialized literature and richly illustrated his study with over 200 images. Prior to the actual inventory, which takes up about half of the book, it is shown how the comic trade press has emerged from the activities of the comic and science fiction scenes and how it is dependent on corresponding foreign publications. A subsequent analysis of this specific form of comic journalism sheds light on the connections between market mechanisms and the origins and motivations of the publishers.
