Completely revised based on the KMK educational standards: Four modular chapters structure the teaching material. Focus on Literature covers the genres of novel, short story, poetry, and drama, allowing for a systematic introduction to literary forms. Excerpts from a novel and a play prepare students for reading a complete text. Focus on Skills includes a Writing page and a page with at least one additional key competency (Speaking, Listening, Mediation, Reading, Viewing) for each chapter. Focus on Language promotes language awareness and competence with different focal points on one page per chapter: Pronunciation, Grammar, Vocabulary and Style, Spelling and Punctuation. Clearly defined performance and inclination differentiation: Support, Challenge, and You choose. Intercultural learning: Communicating across Cultures. A Self-Assessment page at the end of each chapter allows students to evaluate their own performance. References help address identified gaps.
