The textbook "Continuous Time Control of Make-to-Stock Production Systems" by Önder Bulut offers a comprehensive analysis of production control and inventory management in make-to-stock production systems. It addresses complex issues arising from the simultaneous use of multiple production channels and the consideration of different customer classes generating independent Poisson demands. The study examines both exponential and Erlang processing times and models the systems as M/M/s and M/Ek/s queues. A central concern of the book is the characterization of the optimal cost function as well as the optimal production and rationing policies. The findings indicate that the optimal production policy is a state-dependent base stock policy, while the optimal rationing policy exhibits a state-dependent threshold type. Additionally, a dynamic rationing policy is proposed for systems with uncapacitated replenishment channels, utilizing information about the status of outstanding replenishment orders. This work represents a significant extension of the existing literature in the field of controlling make-to-stock queues, which has previously only considered single-server systems.
