Product details

Danziger Baroque - Recordings of works of sculpture and decorative arts from public and private collections in Gdansk. Illustrated with 48 black-and-white plates. The Baroque period is defined as the era of European art history lasting from approximately 1575 to 1770. It is divided into the sections Early Baroque (up to around 1650), High Baroque (approximately 1650-1720), and Late Baroque or Rococo (approximately 1720-1770). As an art form of absolutism and the Counter-Reformation, Baroque is characterized by lavish displays of grandeur. Originating in Italy, it initially spread in the Catholic countries of Europe before also taking hold in Protestant regions in a modified form.

Reprint of the original edition from 1909.
