Mira Lobe was born in 1913 in Görlitz, Silesia. Her talent for writing was evident from her school essays. She wanted to study and become a journalist, but this was denied to her as a Jew in fascist Germany. Instead, she learned machine knitting at the Berlin fashion school. In 1936, she fled to Palestine, where she married the actor Friedrich Lobe and had two children. From 1950, she lived in Vienna, where she died in 1995. Mira Lobe wrote almost 100 books for children and young people, many of which received prizes and awards.
