The explosion of large blocks over 2 meters in size has led to the destruction of many thousands of boulders in recent centuries. Many ancient stone giants no longer exist today. The list of large boulders is constantly changing, as boulders continue to be destroyed and thus disappear forever. For this reason, such large boulders are now rarely seen in the Harburg region and are considered objects of local history and monument preservation. Fortunately, authorities have slowly recognized the problem and begun to protect new finds as natural monuments. In a private inventory list, the author Sven Poslednik has recorded 1,000 boulders in the Hamburg area as of May 2017. The inventory list is constantly being updated. A selection of 70 stones can be found in this print edition. This work serves to preserve these special stones in this sense.
