The author of the present volume "The Cultivation of Tobacco and the Weaver Thistle" describes in his guide to the efficient operation of both the tobacco varieties and their types, location and crop rotation, fertilization, seed and plant breeding, treatment during growth, harvesting, drying, and further processing. In the second part, he addresses the cultivation of the Weaver Thistle, also known as the rough, wool, or cloth thistle, in a similar sequence. The name Weaver Thistle derives from the fact that the thorn-like yet flexible tips of the dried flower heads are suitable for raising the surface of wool fabrics without tearing them. This creates a flannel-like fluffy surface. Illustrated with numerous text images. Reprint of the original edition from 1853.
