Product details

The Apothecary Garden traces its origins back to the monastery gardens of the Middle Ages, where plants were cultivated for medicinal purposes. By the 16th century, they were also established by pharmacists. During the Baroque period, creating such gardens became a true obsession, which also contributed to the serious study of botany. Examples of medicinal plants that were cultivated at that time but are now partially no longer used include delphinium, columbine, poppy, iris, and white lily. During this period, botanical gardens were also established in Berlin and Halle, designed as model gardens for practical medicine or medicinal gardens. This is a guide to the cultivation and treatment of medicinal plants and those used for essences grown in Germany, illustrated with 33 black and white images. This is a reprint of the original edition from 1890.
