Thirty years have passed since Greta Marchmont left the manor where she once found a home. Now she returns to Marchmont Hall in the mountains of Wales – but she has no memory of her past, as she has been suffering from amnesia since a tragic accident. During a walk, however, she makes a disturbing discovery: she stumbles upon a grave in the woods, and the weathered inscription on the cross reveals to her that a little boy is buried here – her own son!
