The integration of Western medicine and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the West, with the aim of making both available simultaneously in hospitals and medical centers in the future, is now a concept that is being promoted. The goal is to advance the global progress and internationalization process of TCM around the world. On one hand, there is strength in numbers and power in collaboration, which makes this step seem wise and beneficial. On the other hand, it could be a weak move to sell the secret systems and the power of TCM to a world that may not understand, accept, appreciate, or utilize it properly. This topic is of interest to me and many other serious doctors and patients because we are curious about our future and the future of TCM, and whether this step indicates strength or weakness. Is the call for TCM integration a gain in power? Or is it a degradation to a lower, submissive position, where working in the Western world means merely serving as a limited TCM assistant for Western medical practitioners? In this work, I will explore this topic and highlight some of the benefits and pitfalls of integration.
