The Palmengarten is celebrating its 150th birthday. Once founded as a civic institution, the connection between the people of Frankfurt and "their garden" is still strong today. At the same time, it has always moved with the times. There have been many changes, such as the first extensions to the grounds at the end of the 19th century or in 1930, when the garden became municipal property, the reconstruction after the Second World War and the major renovations from the end of the 1960s onwards. Nevertheless, the Palmengarten has never lost its roots: it has always remained a show garden, a cultural site and a teaching institution at the same time. The large-format picture and text volume illuminates both the history of the Palmengarten and the institution's self-image today. It also takes a look at the future, in which the Palmengarten will have to face new challenges in times of climate change.
