With the book and exhibition, the HfG Archive / Museum Ulm presents for the first time one of the most well-known designs created at the Ulm School of Design (HfG) at the center of an analytical presentation. Through a poly-perspective view of the various conditions that made the stool possible, not only is a design classic made understandable, but also an original model of historiography is realized, which can be seen as groundbreaking for further investigations. The volume marks the beginning of a book and exhibition series about the most important designs that emerged from the Ulm School of Design between 1953 and 1968. The HfG Archive is an external department of the Museum Ulm. Since 1987, it has preserved the material and theoretical legacy of the legendary educational institution through publications, exhibitions, events, and archival work.
