In the 17th century, Königsberg played an outstanding role in literary and musical terms in the Baltic Sea region. Notably, there was an unusually close collaboration between writers and musicians, who occasionally met in the famous pumpkin hut in Heinrich Albert's garden. This collaboration was particularly fruitful in the area of occasional literature, which often stood at the center of artistic creation in the 17th century. The central figure of this circle was the poet Simon Dach, who served as a professor of poetry at the University of Königsberg from 1639 until his death in 1659. The authors of this volume illuminate the unique and complex interconnections of literary and musical creation in Königsberg within the regional cultural landscapes of early modern Germany. An edition of Königsberg works by Georg Neumark has been added as an appendix. This poet-composer, who lived in Königsberg as a student at the time, was well acquainted with the city's artistic scene and embodies the close connection between poetry and music that existed there.
