Hanna Dalvai, née Goldmann, born on February 18, 1920, in Salurn at the southern border of the province of Bolzano, later in life wrote down her memories of her sparse childhood and youth in the South Tyrolean lowlands (including time spent with her strict Aunt Lora). She also recounts her experiences far from home (including as a 'donna di servizio' in Milan) and describes her adventurous journey - after World War II - over the Brenner Pass to join her husband living in Austria. However, they found themselves with nothing and were forced to live for five years in a refugee camp in Eichat near Absam with their two children. Hanna Goldmann writes about these difficult years as impressively as she does about her indescribable joy when she was finally assigned accommodation in Innsbruck in the Heilig-Jahr settlement, where she spent the rest of her life. Brigitte Mazohl, emeritus professor of Austrian history at the University of Innsbruck, has edited these texts, added footnotes, and published excerpts from two interviews she conducted in 2018 with the then 98-year-old Hanna Goldmann.
