Product details
This work examines the development of the figure of the psychopath in film using a character analysis based on Jens Eder's methodology. The character of Dr. Hannibal Lecter is used as a representative of the psychopath figure in film. The films "The Silence of the Lambs," "Hannibal," "Red Dragon," and "Hannibal Rising" are analyzed with a focus on the character and then compared to one another. The comparison aims to reveal an evolution of the character in film. The findings from the study suggest, against the theoretical background of stereotype research, a shift from an individualized character to an increasingly typified one. However, the essence of the character is maintained. Nevertheless, the various technical means of representation each highlight specific traits that support certain dramatic plotlines.
